Salvia Real is a collective of Tecate musicians that experiment with a fusion of rhythms with its base of Jamaican “Reggae” style, and with influences such as “Alternative Rock,” “Dancehall” and “Latin Music.” Born in October 2009 and starting from this date, Salvia Real began to work on fixing and composing original songs for November 2009. They started to expose them in cultural events and concerts of the region.
The name of the group and the theme of the songs are inspired from nature and the ecosystem of the region, the need for Social Justice and life on the border of Baja California. Also, some songs have been adapted like “Vida Loca” by Francisco Cespedes and “Rompe Tu Silencia” by los Girasoules, both played as Reggae music.
The band members come from diverse past musical projects (JAMBO, PETROGEL, SKANDALO) and various participations as invited musicians (B-SIDE PLAYERS, SOMOS UNO SOUND SYSTEM). SALVIA REAL has participated as supporting acts in concerts for MIDNITE (St. Croix), TRISTON PALMA (Jamaica) and AGUA DULCE (USA). On the other hand, the band has formed part of festivals such as: “5to FESTIVAL RAZTLAN,” “ROSARITO PLAYA FEST 2011,” “8th BOB MARLEY DAY,” “ROCK X MEXICALI,” “TIJUANA EN LA PLAYA,” “DIA MUNDIAL DEL MEDIO AMBIENTE (Tecate),” “TKTBEERFEST2010” and “TECATE EN MARCHA 2010.” The band has made a presence in the following cities: Tijuana, Ensenada, Rosarito, Tecate, and San Diego.
